"The first time I met June was backstage at the Grand Ole Opry, and I got on my knees and told her that I was going to marry her some day. We were both married to someone else at the time. Ring of Fire - June wrote that song for me, because that's the way our love affair was. We fell madly in love and worked together all the time." The Guardian's got Johnny Cash's final interview.
On one of the numerous NPR segments on Cash last weekend, one of the guests said that he was a perfect mixture of Saturday night and Sunday morning. That's about as good a summation of the man as I've heard yet.

It breaks my heart to hear the devotion and love in his marriage to June.

Aww, aacheson, it warms my heart to hear of it. I mean, how many people get to experience that sort of incredible, intense love? I'm glad they got to share it for such a long and happy marriage.

I guess that's what I meant. It warms my heart that they were so lucky experience that kind of love. But he was talking about it right after she died, so that's why it breaks my heart. It's so sad to hear a man state he is in more pain than words can say.

Not to speak ill of the man in black or anything... but it's pretty weird that his marriage to June meant that much, but neither of their marriages to their first (second?) spouses mattered much at all.

Well, if you believe in soul mates, then it wouldn't seem weird at all. I liked his answer to the interviewer, with regard to whether or not he was angry with God... "My arms are too short to box with God."

You marry the wrong person, then marry the right person. Not sure what's "weird" about that.
