The Confluence Project aims to "visit each of the latitude and longitude integer degree intersections in the world, and to take pictures at each location." Includes stories from each documented point.
See also geocaching as well as benchmark hunting and various other ways of turning lat and long into somewhere to go.

nicwolff, you're quick. I searched for "confluence" and came up empty.

Well, it was one of my favorite posts ever and well worth revisiting. Even if some bastard did beat me to the one off Ballston Beach that I wanted to claim.
Anyway, don't banish yourself, it wasn't your fault - the thread search is fucked. I tried the thread search and got nothing, then Google and found the old thread, then the thread search again and there it suddenly was.

nicwolff, it's not so bad here. It's the "Rural Serene" confluence, after all.

I didn't see it first time round, and this one's definitely worthy of a double! Way cool!

The one thing I find interesting about these pictures is how little man made anything appears in them. Living in the city the last few years, I've sort of forgotten that most of the planet is still vast empty spaces.

I didn't see this one the first time around either...
It's cool, but I wish somebody could/would take the photos and create a more interesting, involving interface to the material. That's one lame, grammar school textbook page design...

It would be interesting do this with alignments on the old chessboard. See you at the cabal meetup.
