Rock Challenge Quiz

So You Think You Know All About Rock Music, Do You? Well, try Rough Music's Rock Challenge quiz. (Click on the top left-hand corner, where it says "Test Your Rock Knowledge", include nom-de-plume and imaginary e-mail addy - with spaces even - and prepare to ransack that befuddled memory of yours.). There's additional fun to be had by betting on each question. I loved it! Be warned, though: if you're any good, it's a great time-waster! P.S. The site itself isn't half-bad either. (Via LinkFilter.)
Is it just my connection, or is the server getting whacked?

Well, 6750 on my first try ranks me 1040 out of 6393. I missed 2 questions and wasn't aggressive enough in my wagering.

just your connection; it seems fine to me, though there's a bug if you reach the highest level; when it tries to tell you what the next level to aspire to is, there's an asp error. Oops.
(40750, rank 337/6397 so far)
Thanks, Miguel, this is fun!

the first time i played i got the first 6 in a row wrong. the second time i scored perfect (each wager being half of my score) and still only placed 294th. weird. seems the questions are really uneven as far as difficulty goes.
great link though. thanks. lotsa fun.

if you want to get the highest possible score make sure you bet exactly half on each question, down to decimal places! (ended up 1.65 off the pace, and came 214th...). oh, and answer every question right too!

Hey, giant-size congratulations, afro! That Heaney bastard (could it have been the great poet Seamus, known to like this rock music?) was starting to irritate me. ;)

afro - Nice one son, I thought it was you!
Guess all those years of D.I.T.C. finally paid off (sort of)
Hats off!

afro, unfortunately the game is rounding your score down so they're saying you're second and the heaney bastard is first. there's no way to unseat him! bastiches!

I had a great deal going where I would bet a small amount and miss the question, then bet half and get it. Until I got one on the small amount, and the whole thing was thrown off. Wound up with 3700.
[sour grapes] But how much "knowledge of rock" is really about identifying album-cover details, anyway? (Actually, the only thing I was really good at) [/grapes]

ahhh-damn!
I was betting too conservatively right off the bat, fearing that this was actually going to be hard or something...the only one I got wrong had to do with the lead singer of Travis' haircut's name. I mean, really, this is rock trivia? But by that point I was betting the full 50%, and lost a lot of ground to a friggin' hairdo! Blatt.

Good game, good concept... but what is the point of wagering if you don't know what the next topic is going to be (or am I missing something?)
I could see adjusting a bet based on how well you feel you know something... but what would be the point of not betting 1/2 every time?

I was going for that perfect score with all the decimal points etc and I was on 100% when I got to question 10: What year was Velvet Undergrounds debut released? Amazing coincidence - I was listening to it at the very time so checked out the label: 1966. Wrong, quiz people say 1967. I may sue.

you'd lose, meech. it was recorded in the spring of 1966 but wasn't released till 1967.
