Xtreme martial arts video gallery - a gallery of clips of traditional martial arts fighting styles and weapons, as well as some rather cool "in-the-body" animations. The site is a preview for a show on martial arts that will launch this week on the Discovery Channel. (via Buzz).

I like how the computer animations were missing genitals. You know, even if they wanted to omit the fact that men have genitals, they could have had a bulge of flesh like a codpiece.

Does anyone know if this program will be playing in Canada anytime soon? I don't think the Canadian Discovery Channel is carrying it... the commercials for it on TLC have been taunting me all week.

On further inspection, the show seems to be a big commercial for some guy's Xtreme Martial Arts business -- basically a flashy, useless school of "martial arts" designed to lure kids into the dojo with the prospect of looking like Jet Li.

This XMA stuff isn't the real thing.

It is like saying a salmon skin roll is sushi. It ain't. Sure it tastes good, but you're not going to find it in a traditional sushi restaurant in Japan.

Surely, in this day and age, we can all agree that anyone using the word xtreme should be brutally killed and their body strung up as a warning to others.

I'm watching it now, and it's idiotic. It could have been interesting, but they had to be "xtreme". Too bad.

I'm watching it right now too, and I can't help to think that late at night the 3D programmers took all the movement footage and applied it to make kung fu fighting puppies and kittens.

I watched it on Jet Blue red-eye flight from NYC to SLC last night. Not all that great. I found myself getting interested as they brought up a new subject, and then completely disinterested as they taught us almost absolutely nothing about it. It was classic flash-cut, short scene, blipvert style programming...

Disclaimer: the flight was stuffy and I couldn't sleep and that might have made me grumpy...
