The fact that I thought these guys are jerks, and thought the Peta thread was high humor means I am broken I think.

These guys would do a lot more for The Cause if they had not "borrowed" a camera from a store with no intention of purchasing it to document the process, or at least not made so much of that part of the story. They (and people like them) make everyone who shares music or advocates sharing music look like a bunch of criminals.

Slightly aside from the actual point of downhillbattle.org, I hold a grudge against them because they are blog spammers. I think that most people online would be more interested in their cause (ok, I would be more interested) if they distributed their message in ways other than the old comment spam routine. Ok, done venting.

Well, not the present, but it will be part of a homemade-themed gift package from me this year. Of course, it'll be for my only non-materialistic friend---the rest are getting totally legal CDs and DVDs from Amazon.

Pretty cool homemade CD for present idea:

My sister made a mixed CD of all the songs she made my mom play in her car when she drove my sister around in high school. So instead of hating the songs (like she did before), my mom now rocks out to the Smiths, New Order, Dead Can Dance, etc. Of course this only works if you have a hip mom like we do. :)

I don't know, I thought it was a pretty cool idea. Rock on, sis.

nope. at least in the u.s.a., it's a crime

(or, rather, as they taught us to say in law school: under some circumstances, behavior which constitutes infringement of a valid US copyright can subject a person to criminal prosecution and penalties.)

It dries clear, and protects the stamp from the postmark, so that it may be used again.

The fact that they "borrowed" the camera from Walmart makes me like them even more. But I tend to applaud any petty, childish digs at Walmart AND I think homemade CDs are a great gift, so you know, whatever.

I wasn't suggesting that the act of "borrowing" a camera from a store was criminal, just that the general perception the public arena of those who share music is already somewhat shady and making such a big deal of how they got the photos just reinforces that perception. They could have done exactly the same thing without mentioning it and their prank would have been seen with a much more positive spin by many people.
