The Disney version was just on TV, and I do think it rocks, as Disney films go.

My. How fortunate for Disney that this story was available in the public domain.

(copyright snarkiness notwithstanding, I must agree that the movie did indeed rock.)

Every Mainland Chinese woman I have ever spoken to about the Disney version of the story (and I am at a public university in NYS, so that is a few, but by no means more than say, 35) thinks that representation of the story is insulting and absurd. I have only given the poem a cursory glance, but I will be interested in doing a better reading and asking a few of these women after intercession about it
