If you can't beat em... Pearl Jam join the bootleggers. Makes me wish I was into them. Hope other bands will follow suit.
This is nothing new. Zappa did this awhile back with his "Beat the Boots" series.

See, this is what I actually use Napster for: the bootleg tracks that I used to buy, without getting to listen first, from the slightly shady people at CD fairs who sell them alongside "Not For Resale" promos and the like.
And if Zappa was the first, Pearl Jam was definitely an early mover in encouraging the shift in fan-based bootlegging from tape circles to MP3 trading. Power to them.
