East Coast Greenway

East Coast Greenway is a community project to build a 2600 mile urban greenway from Canada to Key West. Bike, walk, rollerblade or Segway from Canada to Florida.. This "urban Appalachian trail" is twenty-percent trail complete now with %80 by 2010. Route Maps for each state.
Having a green belt behind my home this is an awsome project. Maybe one day it will be linked west.

The American Discovery Trail is a similar concept, though you need to share the road with vehicle traffic for most of it. Still, there are some neat journals and an extensive network of devotees.

So is the idea to be as urban/civilized as possible the whole way, or is it for the odd experience of roughing the wilderness between cities? :P

I wonder if they have links to either/both of the Appalcian Trail and the Trans-Canada Trail (in New Brunswick/Nova Scotia). If the TCT links to this, in a few years you might be able to bike from Vancouver to Miami without ever going on a road! Too cool.

I love this so much!
abcde: "Our route will be an urban alternative to the Appalachian Trail, located in the shadows of skyscrapers and within suburban greenspace, but also in surprisingly rural areas that still exist between our east coast cities."
