Metroid Cubed Now you can enjoy a classic NES game as "volumetric isometric 3d graphics using a Voxel Sculpting tool," which means is in some weird 3d now, and more confusing.
In other Metroid news, a brand new speed run of Super Metroid was released a while back, 58 minutes with 100 percent completion. And unlike those "time attack" videos that have come with some controversy, this speed run was played on a SNES console and recorded the old fashion way. For more speed runs and time attacks, please see here.

Clever idea with the metroid speed run to use archive.org's servers - 100mb each!

That tetris demo is nuts.

Interesting, but kinda sad. I watched some of the minesweeper videos and the best score for expert is using a cheat that I used to know but have forgotten. Whats the point of cheating at minesweeper for gods sake?

Wow, that minesweeper video is pretty impressive, assuming it's real.
I didn't notice any cheating. Perhaps you mean pushing both buttons? There's a trick where you can press both buttons on a square that's been revealed not to have mines, and if there are as many mines marked in adjacent squares as its number, it will show all of those squares. I don't know if that makes sense, but try it. If you have the squares around it marked wrong you can lose the game with that, so it's no cheat - it just saves a bit of time. I think it's in the help file, even. I have a Gnome version of Minesweeper on linux, "GNOME Mines," and it has the same feature.
If that's not what you saw, I guess he's sneaky enough where I just missed it.

Perhaps efalk is referring to the key sequence that turns one pixel in the top corner of your screen red if you're hovering over a mine?

Oh. Oh yes. As a completely biased fan of Metroid, I must say that this is an excellent post. Thank you.

I beat the SNES metroid in something like 2 hours and 3 minutes once... Had some massive assignment due for the Galois theory class, got fed up and said, "Dammit, Jeff. I'm gonna do it. I'm going to play Metroid straight through and try to beat the two hour mark!" Then, pausing only for piss and pizza, it was done. And just barely missed...
