When they first announced they were giving away GTA, I gave them my details.

Instead of a link to download the game, they sent me spam.

And no link for the game (just to make that clear).

Dear Boss,
Please go on vacation. Or at the very least be struck blind so as not to see me steal virtual cars.
Yours,
Robocop is bleeeding.

(Now if only Postal would come out complete and free...)

Blue Stone: When they first announced they were giving away GTA, I gave them my details, and they gave me a link to download the game and no spam.

Maybe they screwed up and sent all the download links to me and all the spam to you?

You can find GTA II for like $5 in the bargain bins at a variety of big box computer stores...

From the GTA download screen:

* NOTE: The information you provide on this form may be collected even if you are not eligible to download the game.

[emphasis mine]

Guess they thought you were a contender, jacobm.

(mumbles) ... I coulda bin a contender ...

Also ... File Planet will give you the first Ground Control (a cool and pretty tactical RTS game) for free if you're willing to wait in line for the download.

Yay for free games!

I didn't like GTA 2 nearly as much as GTA 1.

BTW, GTA 1 is actually much more sadistic than GTA 3. You get bonus points for running people over, and the more people you run over in a row, the more points you get. Also, there are hare krishnas that all march together so you can run over the whole line at once and get huge points.

Use a throw-away address if you don't want to give them your details. I did.

I agree with smackfu - but I also enjoy the first GTA more than the newer ones because running away from the police is actually a challenge. In the newer games, you can just go to some obscure place in the map and the cops will never get you.

Betrayal at Krondor for free! Okay, so that one was released for free a while ago...

Everyone remembers the famous throwaway address? 742 evergreen terrace? Springfield, Oregon?

I always use 6969 Reciprocal Way, Fellatio, Indiana, 76969

But that's just me.

Apparently.

One of the best games of all time Star Control 2 is free and OSS. Don't be confused, "The Ur-Quan Masters" is really the full and original SC2 with sound, music and voice.

Mmmm! But I still have my old copy of GTA and the London 1969 expansion on CD. Really.

I've never heard of Wild Metal, so I'm looking forward to grabbing that one. Now I'm in search of Syndicate--which I don't have my original copy anymore.
