Something I've never heard of was acquired by something else I've never heard of? Wow. Earth-shattering news worthy of a FPP.

Well, I'm glad it was posted. I hadn't heard of it but it looks like a very cool service. If weblogs like MeFi were the first great organizing principle of the interweb this is the sort of thing that might be the next. I've signed up.

I knew what LookSmart was, but had honestly never heard of Furl - it turned out to be an interesting tool. Thanks for the link.

LookSmart was downsizing earlier this year and last after losing Micro$oft partner funding +. Where'd the cash come from?
Also, amongst the fine products: Net Nanny. D-lightful.
The filtered internet is dead. Long live the filtered internet.

Furl has been linked on MeFi before as an FPP, which is how I heard of it. I went there and tested it out and then promptly forgot about it (who needs it when there's del.icio.us?).
I got an email about the LookSmart thing last night and promptly went to furl to remove my address from their database. Unfortunately, that task seems impossible.

I knew some people who invested their Netscape millions into a competitor of Furl, back during the e-gold rush... for some reason, people thought you could make money from this sort of thing, basically a glorified book mark. But who knows.

Why would one ever use furl when you could use the far superior service it ripped off, del.icio.us?

Because Furl lets you save and search the contents of pages -- even pages within your intranet or other password-protected sites.

which is actually really useful and it's too bad i didn;t find out about it earlier. really useful for news sites that don't keep their entire archives online. i just hope looksmart doesn't mess it up , now.
