The BBC has a beautiful story of another unsung hero of the Holocaust.

That really is a lovely tale -- thanks. Ingenuity in the face of fascism! With this and the Yes Men's Dow spoof, my faith in humanity is restored a little.

Ah yes, the BBC... the ne plus ultra of accurate investagive reporting; second only to the New York Times

good for him! i love these stories, and just wish they weren't the exception, but the rule.

See now, if he gave it a funny-sounding, Greek- or Latin-derived name, they probably would have shot him. And the Germans would have laughed about it.

You heard it here first...everything in the BBC is false.

Mr Replogle ,
If this is the level of your opinions i think you may have wasted 5 dollars.

Aspire to be more like the person in the article rather than your simple minded statement makes you out to be. ,,, and learn to spell.

Comparing the BBC to Jayson Blair is pretty harsh. I once compared the BBC to a lemur that throws poop at its cage mates, but that doesn't make it right either. I can understand where the humor is, this comes out right after the AIDS kids story the BBC aired. I was going to go for the same joke but thought it tasteless in light of this mans actions.

This man is a hero in my eyes and if it weren't for this article I would never had heard of him, or the terrible disease K syndrome that effected so many Roman jews during the occupation of Italy. Thank god it was cured right after the Germans left.

It's a touching story, if true. My first thought when reading the article, however, was: Is there any evidence to indicate that the old codger isn't simply making it up?

(My vote for the most interesting story of Holocaust survival, by the way: the Ukrainian Jewish families who escaped by living in a cave for over a year.)

Jeez, nice way to turn it into a referendum on the Beeb. When did you start believing everything you read?

That is a cool story. Maybe I will check out Adventure mag at the library to see the rest...
