Schnappi Schnappi SCHNAPP!

Schnappi! Contrary to popular belief in the rest of the world, the German pop charts are not dominated by over-the-hill American TV stars. In fact, the current #1 single, outselling even the usual imported subjects is a silly little ditty about a baby crocodile. (Think of it as the German version of SpongeBob Squarepants, kindasorta.)
I'm passing on the earworm to all of you via the four versions listed here. You're quite welcome.

Do you ever get the feeling that the Germans are just putting us on? I mean, really... Schnappi, David Hasselhoff, the Scorpions???

It wasn't so much that we thought Germans only listened to Hasselhoff as that we thought Germans had terrible taste. Which of course hasn't changed.

eww...it reminds me of that other song by a kid a few years ago. They performed it on that Prince Albert music awards show.

Well, the dominant opinion here for a while has been that a 4-year-old can do a better pop song than Ashlee Simpson.

Production values aren't very important over there, are they? I think even Jordy would throw a diaper-load at this. At least now I have another song to my Torture Tape mix.

Jordy, that's it. As I was listening to "Schnapi," that Jordy song is all I could think of. Well...actually...I was thinking of "The Zoo".

More info! Apparently, her name is Joy Gruttman, and she's all of four years old.
You all think you're such big manly men types, picking on a four year old like that.
I just hope you're all real happy with yourselves. Pshaw.

The children's song MC Koppakuoriainen unfortunately only a small sample was the number 1 christmas song here in Finland, I think it's better than Schnappi. If you didn't guess, it's about a beetle who is also an MC.

I really liked her song. It was catchy, and she sung it really well for a four year-old.
Better than any song I've written or sung, that's fersure.

I just back from France, and on the German television we got they were selling Schnappi ringtones.
It was not nearly as good as "sweety the chicken" though; the jingle for that will be stuck in my head long after British Airways finally finds my bag.

German pop music certainly is in a class of it's own - unless you dare to go the Cote d'Azur in august and have your synapses fried by the French counterpart.
I thought, by the way, the burden of predatorial angst was captured rather well in that little tune.

Oh, mercy, if you follow the links at the end of the MC Koppakuoriainen excerpt, you can get to a karaoke version with the music, the beetle, and the lyrics on screen. But it's all in flash, so no linkin'.

Okay. Shit. I'll come clean.
I am Joy Gruttman. Schnappi? That's me.
I am four years old. This whole thread is a self-link. It was a high-minded attempt on my part to usurp that punk Hasselhoff and assume the mantle of MY OWN KNIGHT-RIDER-BAYWATCH-ROCKSTAR-EVERYWHERE-ELSE EMPIRE.
I'll accept my bannination quietly.
