Why is Red Peters not famous

Why is Red Peters not famous like George Carlin, for example? When you hear his famous songs "Ballad of a Dog Named Stains" or "Blow Me (You Hardly Even Know Me)", you know he’s an unrecognized genius. More on "I Laughed, I Cried, I Fudged My Undies”. Short Amazon introductory clips here
He's actually fairly famous. He's a regular on the Howard Stern show, which quite a few people seem to enjoy.

Beeeeecause George Carlin was one of the standard-bearers of a media revolution, and apparently Red Peters' best bit is yelling "Come Stains"? That seems like a pretty good reason to me.

growabrain, you'd be hard pressed to find two people working in the business of "comedy" who are further apart in style, content, worldview and target audience than Carlin and Peters.

Because Peters is juvenile gross-out humor, which can be a fine thing on occasion, but a steady diet of it will curve your spine and keep the country from winning the war.
Carlin offers the occasional gross-out, plus so much more.

Oh, I get it, because Carlin did that bit about dirty words some 35 years ago. Yeah. I see it now. Peas in a pod, these two.
Also, how can someone who's "not famous" have "famous songs?" What is he, a scatalogical Jimmy Webb?

Replace Carlin's name with Weird Al's and the post makes more sense.

Because on one end of the comedic scale, you have folks like Red, Rick Dees, Pinkard & Bowden and Barnes & Barnes. On the other end, you have Carlin, Bill Hicks, Richard Pryor and pretty much anyone who aspires to be more than yuck-yuck time filler on the Bob & Tom Show.
