Where the Hell is Matt?

Man dances his way around the world [wmv - 36MB] getting jiggy on a mountaintop, busting moves in an impenetrable forest, dodging Hanoi motorcyclists with his finely tuned moves, and, well, I wouldn't want to give anymore away. It's the feel good movie of the season.

Matt is a 26-year-old itinerant deadbeat from Connecticut. He quit his job in Brisbane, Australia to go walk the Earth, like Caine from Kung Fu.

Excellent.

I'm not sure how I feel about it. I would kind of like to see a Star Wars Kid treatment.

Excellent fun stuff :) It's the sort of thing that I'm sure many people have had the idea of before, but few to none have gone through with it.

[I love it]

That was good, he scores major points for dancing almost everywhere (anyone knows) on the planet. Neat.

The quote from Larry King on his blog is priceless.

I can't figure out why this is so uplifting (but it is).

It's the sillyness. He's not dancing in any formally controlled way, and in the most unlikely settings. So there's the aspect of breaking convention and enjoying it, which is kinda amusing.

The sense of amusement is reflected in the reactions of passersby. This would be very different without the surrounding people; the woman in China wondering what he wants her to do with the Camera, the filmers in Kenya laughing as he jumps around with the giraffe in the background. The girl in Bankgok, the dogs in Connecticut, the baby in Seattle, all want to join the carefree stomping. So there's a profundity in the universality of the reaction.

Except New York city where people absolutely don't care and it
almost seems at the end that the cameraman is trying to run away
with the camera :-)

Totally charming, but after reading his last entry back in November, I find myself asking "So, where the hell is Matt?" Somewhere wonderful, dancing his little head off, getting his laptop fixed and updating soon, I hope.

Thanks, donovan!

Matt is actually in Seattle at the moment.

Apparently there may be a director's cut soon to be released featuring some as yet unseen "whale footage."

Glad this is being enjoyed and apologies for not listing the file size when I first posted (thanks mathowie.)

Nice! I vaguely remember a Peanuts sketch where Snoopy dances blissfully and blindly all over the place. This reminded me of that.
