Mayumi Lake makes pornography out of your non-lascivious body parts. Or she makes art by miming pornography's camera angles and costumes. She calls it Poo-Chi. (NSFW) Here's an artist's statement and here's a very brief gallery essay.

Thanks, Illinois! I shave my armpits in a racing stripe to prevent this kind of confusion.

Is it pathetic that this kind of turned me on?

I'm suitably disturbed. Not by the content, but by my reaction.

Bad brain! Bad! No soup for you!

But I take solace in this famous presidential quote:
"... fool me once, shame on — shame on you. Fool me — you can't get fooled again."

When I looked again, I wasn't fooled. It's all knees and elbows.

Most disturbing, yet safe for work, image:

Family Portrait, 2003
Wal-Mart portrait with my cat's urn, with summer dress
C-Print, 11 x 14
Some people may not be able to stomach the idea that she had her portrait done at Wal-Mart. Some might not fathom why she paid to have her cat incinerated and stored in an urn. Some might not be able overcome that she's having a portrait with the urn. Some may not understand why she's dressed the urn in a dress. Me? I'm perplexed at the implication she has seasonal clothing for the urn.

Oh, come on.

One, I wasn't fooled for a second, and two, what's the artistic point of all of this?

sequential, I assume the summer dress is hers, and the ribbon is merely decoration on her cat's urn. Still...being a Wal-Mart photographer must be weird as hell.

I would like to wholeheartedly thank nobody for turning me on to this amazing stuff.

Seriously, great link, nobody. I love this. Especially Moon Baby.

No, no... she has different dresses for her urn...

Big, I guess if you don't get it, you don't get it.
I say: Awesome.

what's the artistic point of all of this?

You're kidding, right? The point couldn't be more obvious; it's a clever and playful way of fucking with our notions of what's hot or not. Thanks for the fun post, nobody.
