Something else to do with a scalpel.

Peeled Photographs : British artist Richard Galpin creates unique images out of photographs by selectively stripping them with a scalpel.
Very nifty. I must try emulating that in Photoshop. My scalpel will be the polygonal lasso and delete key.

Can't help thinking this technique would be far more effectively employed on portraits. I enjoyed a few of the more organic images in his workbook best. Great link.

He'd also be better served by putting up larger images to examine. These pics were interesting but it was impossible to see any details.

These are great. I'd love to see what the originals looked like.

Not at all what I expected given the post's description -- so much more intricate. Great find.

My only wish(es) are that a) like fenriq said that there would be higher res versions on the website, but more importantly that photographers working in non-standard processes would say a bit (or more helpfully a lot) about the technical process that they follow to make their images.
And yea, I like the notebook stuff best.
Hey pheideaux: when using the lasso, don't forget the PAINTBUCKET.

Surely he could make more useful use of his amazing skills with the scalpel.

Amazing stuff. I can't imagine how long it takes him to create those images. If I'd have tried to create them they'd be covered in blood from the many slices I'd taken off of my already scalpel sliced finger!

floanna : Your comment made me laugh. I'm a collage artist and the only time I have ever cut myself with my exacto knife was when I was trying to use it to get the label off of a pair of sunglasses. I did my senior thesis in college putting together a show of collage works and never got so much as a papercut! When you're working with knives for hours per day, you tend to be not only careful, but hyper aware of where the knife is it at all times.

I don't have anything original to add, but thanks. It's a beautiful link, and very interesting.

Thanks, grapefruitmoon. It's neat to see the development to the most recent, and most deliciously complex, stuff. What fire&wings said, too; portraits would be great to see in this style.
