George Bush Loves The Melvins
Are you sitting down? Good, because what you are about to see may both shock and titillate. I know that most MeFites don't think they have much in common with the President and his family, but oh, you are mistaken. Just like you, George W. Bush is a total f*cking metalhead. And so are lots of other people.

Am I the only one who remembers that this is also the ASL hand sign for "I Love You"?
My father and mother taught us to use that hand signal when, say, my father was driving away for work and had the windows closed.
Thinking back now, I can't remember when we stopped doing that...

Well obviously that's why, in most of these cases, these famous people are 'throwing up the horns.'

davejay, the ASL sign needs to have the thumb outward and not touching the curled fingers.
But it is a beautiful thing to do as dad drives away...

Isn't this at least a double-post? We get it. He likes UT. Their sign also has other meanings. Wow.

Heh... I hadn't read that "Shocker" article before. I remember a bunch of us making that gesture in the high school yearbook my senior year, 1994. Good to see that the next generation carries on great traditions.

Oh, but it's NOT "Hook'em horns."
Okay, probably is. (UT grad. Hangs head in shame.)

Ahem.
It might be worth noting that some on the other side of the Red River point them downward, especially during OU/Texas weekend...

In Italy, you wouldn't want to wave that sign to your father as he leaves the house. Here's why.
As a metalhead gesture it's international though.

God, DevilDanced, you must get an awful lot of fiber to shit on every thread that makes fun of Bush. And yet, you're such a tight-ass about it. Therein, a contradiction.

Can't find it now, but I mentioned Bush making this sign during the first inauguration parade in a previous thread. I'm glad there is a reasonably logical explanation for him making the sign.

Points docked for "glam rock bands like Motley Crue and Poison." Hirsute they certainly were, but not glam rock.
