Billyuns and billyuns of years ago, or at least a fair while back, there used to be a kingdom on the moon. The kingdom had a princess named Serenity, and she was guarded by representatives of nearby planets. Things being as they were, said representatives were all, teenagers in sailor suits. Look, no one said it was going to be sensible.

Heh.
Has there ever been a case where an Anime-->Live action transmutation didn't derserve to be mocked?

A girl I was friends with a long time ago used to like Sailor Moon, and I came to like it too. The backstory has a really excellent mythic arc tinged with Japanese folklore. It felt epic and Joseph-Campbell-ish.
Unfortunately, though I think the mythology is kinda cool on a macro-scale, each individual episode is really, really stupid.
What's up with this live action stuff? I thought it was just a cartoon.

Usagi would kick Buffy's ass.
(OK, I kid, I kid. Usagi would run away. Jupiter would kick Buffy's ass.)

The three part review of Jack Chick comics is also brilliant.

Were this Plastic, I'd rate MaryH +1 witty.
Anyway, I've never quite understood the attraction held by Sailor Moon, any incarnation. Even the Young Female Personality Emulator I have running on my computer can't figure it out. My Little Pony, Strawberry Shortcake, Rainbow Bright, Care Bears, all these things have been accounted for, but not Sailor Moon. And certainly not this even-more-weird live action version, which is at least an order of magniture more wrong than the cartoon, and that's saying something.
(Don't ask why I have a young female personality emulator. The answer will probably not be one you want to hear.)

It's not just porn that ruins you for real women, as this thread would have it. I watched anime and now I only want to date Sailor Mars.

Not anime, but He-Man the Movie was pretty good, I thought, great Skeletor. And Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III, where the boys are magically transported to feudal-era Japan, is absolutely wonderful. Hysterically funny on its own, and also you'll never be able to watch Shogun again without seeing guys in turtle suits running around in the background in every scene.
