80% of newly found votes in the recount are for Gore. So either the inital vote count was biased for Bush, or the recount - which is being much more closely watched - is biased for Gore. (Or it's just a funny coincidence. Also, monkeys might fly out of my ass.)

Are the recounts done, either intentionally or coincidentally, in the same order as the initial count? If so, this isn't very surprising. Early counts on election night were from largely democratic counties.

It is a funny coincidence, nicwolff. Do you really think that the recount is being conducted in the same order as before (as dandot asks)? Bottom line, wait until the entire recount is finished. relax a bit.

The attorney general, or some other state official, has been drawing counties at random.

I've been tracking it on a spreadsheet. The present rate of newly-found votes projects to a ~250 vote deficit for Gore. (Of course, this is not exactly random, and the sample size is pretty small.)

Something I heard when they announced the Miami-Dade county results last night was that there is some kind of absentee ballot which hand-written and not computer-readable, and that they don't include those ballots in the initial count because there are usually only 50 or so per county. Of course, in this race, that amount could make the difference, so in the recount they do count them. In Miami-Dade County, Gore had a large percentage of these ballots (can't remember the count) on the order of 70%. I'm not sure where those ballots were from, but perhaps the voters that fill those out tend to vote Democratic? Or is that just Miami-Dade County?

I don't know who is gonna win, and I really don't much care at this point. The following quote is from Girlhero and it made me laugh out loud.
PS - no comments on the election, but I hope every fucking one of you drama queens who said you were moving to Canada get your asses out.
I'm thinking about moving to Canada myself in a few years, and if you made the threat, I probably don't wanna find you there waiting for me, so feel free to eat your words anytime now. (assuming you end up with the president that caused you to make that idle threat)

Dave, those are most likely the much-anticipated overseas ballots.

Pretty much, lagado. Here's my aforementioned contribution to the Florida situation in applet form.

Oh, please don't let them come to Canada. Besides, when they find out how pointless the current Canadian election is (almost pointless enough for me to vote against the Liberals, just to express displeasure) they'll just stream somewhere else (how's the housing situation in Australia? Mexico maybe? :-) then more people will whine about Brain Drain.
