um...I don't see Mefi on that list of blog winners. Obviously, this isn't the best of the web.

Suicidegirls is a "community"? Right on! From now on, I'm not masturbating to porn, I'm "getting active in the community!"
/ take that, "slacktivism"!!!

I am horrified that www.chipotle.com won in the Restaurant category. I didn't want Design with my burrito, people, I just wanted a freakin' burrito.

This will prove useful in my conversations with Mom. "Mom, don't come in, I'm holding a private bull session on personal politics!"

The Self-Aggrandizement of Dorks
Oooh, I feel so superior just reading this!
P-W-N-E-D, quonsar -- you sure showed those Webby d00ds! How dare they put in long hours every year to recognize good work and bring it to the attention of thousands of people. Don't they realize they risk being called lame???

Interesting how the "people's choice" was so often different from the winner.

Someone explain to me how www.flickr.com got nominated in the "blog" category.

How is The Meatrix new?
How did a Nintendo game win a People's Voice award?
What sort of category is "Broadband"?
How have I never heard of any of these nominees for Games?
How is metaphorical.net a game?
(etc, etc, etc)
When I originally heard this was the same week as WWDC and happening in NYC, I was a little miffed, because I thought it would be neat to go. But now, meh.
(Cheers to the Kleptones for winning, I guess.)

I've always found that the best approach to these "best of the web" sites is to ignore them entirely.
Worst of the web, now, I used to follow THAT religiously (the Mirsky site, I mean).
BTW that Webby site still hasn't finished loading, and I clicked on the link a few minutes ago...

That was an enourmous list of mostly sites built by marketing firms.
None of the categories they use make any sense at all.

<shameless self-promotion>
Well, I managed to create a webby worthy site all on my little lonesome.
</shameless self-promotion>
Which, if I think about it, somewhat undermines the prestige of the awards even further. Ah well, I'll take the meaningless kudos.

Congratulations, noizyboy. David-Michel Davies of the Webbys is one of the brightest, hippiest, and kindest guys out there, and the judges take the process very seriously.

The list of nominations looked incredibly American-centric to me. Are there really no foreign language websites worthy of a webby?

Congratulations, noizyboy.
Cheers digaman. Despite my disingenuous post, I was extremely chuffed to have be included in what was some pretty auspicious company.

I write for one of the sites that got nominated for a webby. I was hoping we'd win so I could put it on my resume.

So apparently the "People's Choice" was Eddie Izzard at EVERY POSSIBLE POINT WHERE THEY COULD VOTE FOR HIM.
ahem.
This made me think the webbies were largely voted on by brits (and possibly their assorted current-and-former colonies.)
Then I saw that the people voted for nytimes.com over guardian.co.uk.
Huh?!
I'm sorry, but the news organisation with fewer credibility-related scandals that has a clear and precise layout with NO REGISTRATION REQUIRED wins out. The People's Choice should have been disqualified in that category or something.
