The sun finally set for good on the British empire And nobody said anything.
I'm sure they're keeping a stiff upper lip about it all.

That made me laugh out loud.
I guess Eliot was right, as nofundy sort of hits at.
This is the way the world ends,
Not with a bang but a whimper.

So now best of the web is a link to a typo?
I don't know about that, Mitheral. But I do know this. A link to a slightly amusing page is a hell-of-a-lot-better-of-the-web than MeFi Bitchsnarkwhine #34,567,822. And no, I haven't counted. That's just how many it feels like.

I'm sorry someone is forcing you to do nothing but read all the FPPs all day... poor guy.

It is if it's very amusing.

No, it's a callout about an FPP that contains a typo.

Why do people rate posts? Do they assume the post was made for their personal entertainment and that the 25,000 other people here want to know their all-mighty decree? I don't get it.

People do it to try and keep the front page from turning into a list of hundreds of daily posts to 404 pages & typos and other web bloopers. Treat a post as though it was consuming valuable real estate, pushing interesting things further down the page, and consider if you really HAVE to link to that "amusingly" worded announcement on the Hilton web site that a promotion no longer is in effect.

What jonson said. Besides which, when the site owner fixes this (which may only take a day or two as there is a lot of traffic deep linking to one page) the FPP isn't going to make any sense. Geez if we've got to put up with this every once and a while the authors could at least take a screen shot a put a description in the FPP. Something like K5s MLP. MLP=> Meaningless Link Propagation. Better yet just don't or take it to metachat.

I flagged the post as a "Derail" which it certanly ended up beeing. Complaning about an FPP in the blue is worse then having a bad FPP, IMO, especialy if it's just to complain that the link isn't intresting enough.
Next time flag it and forget it, please.

I like this correction via Regret the Error.
"Beam me up Scotty" is like the "Play it again Sam" of TV.

Derail what, this post can't have any discussion besides "ya, that was funny" or "no it isn't funny". I flagged it before I posted. Matt seems to be leaving it up here as he's already turfed the other fark candidate posted after this.

Well, then, presumably the answer is "derail the discussion consisting of 'ya, that was funny' or 'no it isn't funny'".

Has the sun set on the British Empire, or is it just disparagement of a romanticised Britain that never was?
There is a new book out by Toby Dodge called Inventing Iraq, in which "Dodge uncovers disturbing parallels between the policies of a declining British empire and those of the current American government.."

People who rate posts mark themselves out to be an arsewipe quite naturally.
Let them carry on, and at least we will know who they are.
