I had never realized how much of that type of guitar pyrotechniques was single string based. By this I mean the basic riff pattern is for a single string. Longer riffs may be constructed by playing the basic on a progression of strings.

Kevin- quite appropriate. That first show-off solo was total Vai. In fact, I thought it WAS Vai, but the credits say it was done by the animator Mike Tysska. I was impressed, he had all of Vai's style down perfectly.
