Man fatally shot in Kentucky over argument about Iraq war I know. I couldn't help myself. Newsfilter, Iraqfilter, Crapfilter, Onelinkpostfilter. I couldn't HELP myself, okay?
This post was deleted for the following reason: "I'm sorry for posting this. It should be deleted...."
I'm sorry for posting this. It should be deleted and I should be banned. But... It's got Iraq. Gunplay. Gunplay between gun dealers at a flea market. A Kentucky flea market. It's got the victim being the one who opposed the war and the shooter being the one who supports it and it looks like the shooter may get off on self defense. It's happened outside the Snack Shed. The Snack Shed. I couldn't help it, I couldn't resist posting it. I think the density of handy yet shallow controversy might implode, creating a whole new alternate universe Metafilter in its place. Can you resist the controversy? Nonetheless I am ashamed.

Well... at least the Iraq war supporter's actions are consistent with his beliefs.

Where in the article does it list the positions on the war of the shooter and shot?
Seems to be quite a few militant "peace" activists these days.

What possible angle could you have felt was worth discussing here?

Ooh, nice one. What a fucking crap post.

Was there an orgy of gun lootin' after his death like in the Old Westerns? I hope someone got his boots.
One of my rules is to not get into any arguments with anyone who's got a gun on their person. Unless I got a bigger 'un!

Yeah, the streets are running red with the blood of yellow-ribbon SUV drivers. Any other strawmen you'd like shot, Steve?

Steve_At_Linnwood: Other articles which state the facts in the summary (opinions of shooter/victim, reason to believe it may have been self-defense, etc) are available here.
Of course that would ruin your chance to snark, so you wouldn't want to do that, no would you?

I love the "well, we all saw it coming" tone of the article.
Have we really resigned ourselves as a nation to being this predictably stupid? Obviously so.

As much as I just love trashing people who support the war, the guy was defending himself against someone who started beating him up.

It's depressing and banal how this stuff can get started.
When my sister worked ER admitting years ago, she'd see fight (and even gunshot) vicitims come in having been grieviously injured over all manner of stupidly handled disagreements: "He was lookin' at my woman." "He touched my beer." "He's a Clemson fan and I'm a Gamecocks fan and we started arguing."
If anything, I guess this suggests that a large part of gun control is head control; if you can't keep cool over differences of opinion, you really shouldn't be around firearms.
Even though the original poster wants it gone, it'll be a shame if this gets deleted; perfectly good fodder for a snarkfest.

Thanks Pollomacho. You are right. Sure is fun to sit up here and look down upon those so less "cultured" than we. Nothing like a feeling of justified schadenfreude to help bolster our egos.
