Oh hell. And I searched and everything. Clearly not well enough, but still-- I did-- I swear.

It happens to the best of us. FWIW, I searched 'russian submarine' to find it - first result.

I searched for the link, and searched tags for submarine and submarines. Alas.

For what it's worth, I prefer your title: "im in ur sub base killin ur d00dz."
You really should add the d00dz tag before this gets deleted, though.

That's quite cool. Even more interesting are the user names and avatars of Russian commenters.

Try running it through Babel Fish - i see some funny untranslated words, but don't know if those are genuine place names or simply something that can't be translated. Some of the translated stuff suggests that it's near the black sea.
Also that parts of the base were designed by 'clever uncles' ... :)

Well, I missed this the first time it was posted, so thanks. Very cool photos. I'd love to be able to spend a day exploring one of these places. It's just so wonderfully eerie.

Modern ruins are so incredibly creepy to me and I can't quite describe how they make me feel.
They literally send a cold shiver up my back sometimes when I view pictures of them.

So we're 35 comments in and nobody's yet wondered why a decommissioned sub base still appears to have power and lighting?

nekro23: well, the previously posted link that nitsuj points to says that you can take guided tours there:
Almost the entire population of Balaklava at the time worked at the Base, even family members could not visit the town of Balaklava without good reason and identification. The base remained operational after the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991 until 1993 when the decommissioning process started and the warheads and low yield torpedos were removed. Then in 1996 the last Russian Submarine left the Base, and now you can go on Guided tours round the Cannel System, Base and small Museum, which is now housed in the old weapons stowage hangers deep inside the hillside.
I imagine whoever's running the tours likes to have electricity in there.
(By the way, all, looking at that link helps a lot with translation problems, as it's in English rather than Russian.)
