Stevie Ray Vaughan playing "Texas Flood"

Never made friends with a strat. Most likely becasue I could never make one sing the way Stevie Ray or Jimi did. I can blow it out on a damn fat-ass Les Paul though! ES-335? Yea, that too!

It looks like he had mastered the guitar, but didn't have complete confidence in himself yet. He was and still is one of my favorite musicians.

He was just as awesome without his Strat, too.

Oh, and...

Kind of the opposite of this which people criticized as too 'robotic'.

That's a shitty comparson. That *IS* robotic.

Wow, unreal. Just unreal. SRV was the man, even when he was young.

I was sitting in a Denny's in Seattle the day that he died, reading the newspapers as they came in. First we thought Eric Clapton was gone and then we realized it was Stevie instead. That's one of those "where were you when..." memories that I will never forget.

Watch that video and then go play Texas Flood on Guitar Hero. That's what I'm gonna do.

I'm still hung upon that level of Guitar Hero--and I'm pro!*

I'm a fair to middling guitar player (its just a hobby), but that didn't keep me from snatching up a SRV Signature Strat when I happened across an amazing deal on one a couple of years ago. It's an amazing guitar, and with the right equipment I can get pretty close to his tone.. but nowhere near his skill.

Oh yeah, and

My favorite has to be Little Wing.

Good lord that guy had a lot of really ugly shirts! He played a mean guitar though, so I guess it's ok.

This one gives me goosebumps every time I hear it. One of the few really good songs he wrote himself.

I love that they included this song in Guitar Hero. There's a lot of songs that are mechanical fun to play, and others that are just brutally hard, but this is the track in the game that really makes me feel like a badass when I play it.

I've never been into what I think of as the Busy Wankin' school of rapid-fire blues riffs—too many guys seem to think that fast is all you need—but Stevie pulled it off with such expressiveness and sheer fucking balls-out passion that I can understand why so many other hosers reach for that particular brass ring.

I'm sick and tired of these Bush-bashing Katrina posts. Louisiana is not Texas!

Stevie's version of Little Wing was one of the reasons I started playing guitar. That and getting laid.

I know it's kind of sad, but I was not aware of this song before Guitar Hero. The fact that he can do an Expert 5-star performance with a real guitar, and sing at the same time is incredible.

I mean, it's hard enough with just 5 buttons and a strum bar.

I remember the day Stevie died, it was the first time I ever saw my dad cry. He was a professional guitar player and I used to listen to SRV + Double Trouble records all the time as my dad played over them. I can still pick out his sound in about a second of hearing his songs. We lost a true master the day he passed, it was a treat to see that video...thanks.
