Nice find, panoptican. I like being able to see the changing cover art, like Batman as an example. From all wacky and smiling to some twisted huge guy in a cape pounding the crap out of people and things. Or in Conan's case, it hasn't changed much at all, except for the girl in peril not showing up so much.
Browsing the Mad Mag. covers, it seems that it was National Lampoon that did the parody I was thinking of, not Mad. Nice to have that straight.
Also - I must re-read all of the Asterix series. Simply amazing.
