Who knew

Who knew that Calvin's favorite magazine was real?
Went into seclusion. I've read stuff about him saying that sometimes he wished that he didn't draw C&H 'cause of the publicity he gets. Hard to live a normal life.

Watterson is a genius. Amazing line, drawings that come alive. Always reminded me of sumi-e paintings. Calvin & Hobbes always seemed like the work of a creator dying to share the best of himself.
Where is he now?
He retired in '96 and is now in Salinger/Pynchon mode.
Reading this speech from 1989, one wonders what Watterson might have done had the web been around when Calvin was huge. Would he have shunned it as yet another avenue of commercialization to avoid, or embraced it as another avenue of expression?

Calvin and Hobbes was undoubtedly one of the top 5 influences on the young me. I still read it all the time.

sonofsamiam,
on that, if nothing else, we can blissfully agree.
