Rowdy XFL fans toss paraplegic to Coliseum floor "His 13-year-old nephew, Eddie Cardenas, rushed
to his aid and wound up covered in beer and his
uncle's blood as fans lobbed brew in his direction...." Hmmm the word Coliseum just stands out to me for some reason. A toast to the Roman Empire!!
Hm. Is it okay to say "scum" in this context? Eh? And I don't normally find something like this at all funny but:posted by hanseugene at 4:09 PM on February 16, 2001
Is it ok to say "what a horrible waste of space those fans are" in this context?
That is one of the most horrible things I have ever heard. I have no clue what to say in response. The victim is certianly a bigger man than any of those bleacher bums combined.

Although in my book he gets one (very) itsy-bitsy demote for being at an XFL game in the first place.

"It's not my style to sue," he said.
This guy is definately has style. That people would be depraved enough to do this to him comes as no surprise. What's surprising is his response. Maybe I'm too jaded.

Smash-mouth football at its finest, folks!
This is one of the most truly disturbing and scary things I have ever read. What an embarrassment.

Yeah, the XFL is the only pro football league with violence in the stands. There's no stabbing in the NFL or anything...

I used to be a Dallas Cowboys season ticket holder, and every year when the Philadelphia Eagles came to town, you would see at least one fistfight between fans in the stands, along with three hours of relentless profanity as drunken fans yelled at each other, almost completely oblivious to the game. I don't remember anyone throwing a paraplegic around, though -- that appears to be a new low.

It sounds to me, from clues in the article, that the guy was KNOCKED over, rather than thrown over, because there was no railing (!!) preventing him from rolling right off the edge.
Not that we should tolerate fans fighting in the stands, but it really is a different matter than someone picking him up and hurling him WWF-style onto the cement below.

exactly, mike. Regardless of the hype, the XFL has proved to be a less dangerous sport than the NFL, if only because the linemen aren't as big. I've found it funny that everyone was down on the XFL from the day it was announced, as if the NFL had some sort of integrity that was being infringed upon. This is just knee-jerk reaction based on the XFL-wrestling connection.

Whether or not they threw or knocked him over, he ended up on the ground, obviously hurt, and the phrase "fans lobbed brew in his direction" sticks in my mind as cruel and uncaring as hell. What is wrong with these people?

What a bullshit headline?!? Like LA fans are some Mad Max dressing, scrap metal scavenging, midget tossing coven. Did you read the article? Instead, damn the Coliseum staff for failing to replace a freakin railing. Ugh.

This is a little off-topic, but I think every sport should be combined with professional wrestling.
