Cap'n Crunch - Man of the (Breakfast) Hour
May 1, 2007 6:19 PM Subscribe
Cap'n Crunch may call up a few memories of mornings in front of the TV (or phone phreaking, for some of you). Now you can find out the rest of his story (or at least the first installment of it) - and, for the first time ever, his first name.
Rumors and lies, all of it.

Double. But perhaps it's time it was posted again, since now the first book is complete.

Count Chocula's first name? Sydney.
I think you'll find it's Ernst.

His first name was Horatio? Hmmmm. That makes me think. They really should do a new line of commercials where Cap'n Crunch spouts one-liners about cereal and then takes his sunglasses off in a really dramatic fashion. That'd be cool.

"first time ever"? Hardly. This blog post (April, 2004) points to a source that is even older. I would imagine that it goes waaaay back to the character's creation and was never much of a secret.

My google-fu is weak! Thanks for that, spock - I couldn't find it at all, though now that you've pointed it out, I can't imagine how I might have missed it.

But, this doesn't answer anything. Why was Captain Crunch designed to shred the roof of your mouth? Where is the HMS Crunch's home port? Is Cap'n a pirate? A slave trader specializing in children? Is he related to Wilford Brimley? How can I grow a glorious mustache like that? Does the Captain have diabetes? Gout? Gonorrhea? Tell me!

My question -- was he aware of Product 18 and what can he tell us about it?
