FWIW, I used some modern panoramic software to create a VR room using Escher's 'Mirrorball' drawing.
I think it's pretty neat to turn the painting 'inside out'.

I didn't care much for the FPP link, but I found some of the related videos on youtube to be interesting. Escher Line Rider, for instance.
