We Heard That Who, Too!

Many a music fan out there in MeFitown and beyond was delighted with and intrigued by that now-vanished website, Dylan Hears a Who! It featured backing tracks that captured, with an astonishing believability, both the sound and the feel of Highway 61-era Bob, not to mention an uncannily good Dylan vocal imitation. And of course, as is now legend, "Dylan" was singing lyrics straight out of the wonderful works of the good Dr. Seuss. Well, back in April Salon magazine broke the story of the very, very talented individual who put the whole thing together. Those for whom this is old news please forgive me, but it's news to me, and I can't find any notice of it here at MeFi, so, here it is.
I failed to download the tracks when the site was up. Is anybody willing to share?
No need. Google "DylanHearsAWhoMP3s.zip" and Bob Zimmerman's your uncle.

Doesn't surprise me that the Dr. Seuss estate purportedly wrote a chapter in the book on intellectual property. I'm hard-pressed to come up with a brand that takes up more shelf space in the bookstore, save Jesus. They shoulda signed this guy and put out an album of his stuff right between the Grisman/Garcia and the Harry Potter CDs.

Heh heh. Here in Japan neither Seuss nor Jesus take up very much bookstore space at all! But, yeah, the Dylan/Seuss project was such fun, and done with so much love and respect for both Dylan and Seuss, it does seem a real shame that the Seuss Inc. had to wipe it off the map. I can certainly understand them wanting to shut down that horrible-sounding OJ-Simpson-story-in-the-style-of-Seuss thing mentioned in the Salon article, but this project of Ryan's, it's hard to see how that could've negatively impacted the Seuss brand at all. I guess the legal departments are just set up to do knee-jerk, across-the-board, instant shut-'em-downs on everything. It's a shame.

This is great, though sad the Seuss foundation is going about things the way they are.
And thanks, public, for the Coral Cache.
