The enchanting Joseph Smith
December 7, 2007 9:59 AM Subscribe
Joseph Smith, founder of Mormonism (previously) is the subject of a major new work from one of Metafilter's favorite religious thinkers - Jack Chick.
This post was deleted for the following reason: we've done jack chick and lolxians a fair amount here already and this is a link to a comic, a mefi post and a mefi tag search. -- jessamyn
So, this is a link to a prior metafilter post, the JackChick metafilter tag page, and a page where I can order chick tracts.
Awesome.

And just in time for the presidential elections. How many Chick publications did I slice up making zines in the 80s? I'll never know.

Well, in the interest of making this conversation meaningful in the slightest, WTF is Romney talking about "freedom requires religion?" On what planet?

Timely because Mitt will rule the country in thrall to his Mormon Masters. Or something.

I really wish the Jack Chick site had testimonials, because I'd love some anecdotal evidence that tracts do anything. I guess it's like spam-- someone has to be clicking for penis enlargement in order to make it a worthwhile effort.

-Shrugs-
People with religion think all kinds of things require religion. Bets to just ignore them.

The spectacle of the crazy Xtians looking suspiciously at the crazy Mormon does, indeed, rate a lol.

A pity the Libertarian republicnas arn't more overtly Libertarian on anything bar not wanting to pay taxes, becuase it would be awesome to get them all into a big fight.

So Joseph Smith was the reincarnation of Napoleon? I had no idea.

I think that it is pretty clear. You aren't free to live in the grace and glory of the lord and go live with him in heaven for all eternity without religion. Therefore, freedom requires religion. Specifically, the Christian religion. What part aren't you getting?

No religion can be a real religion unless it is some 2000 years old. Sorry about that if you are a Protestant. All those coming after are just trying to cash in on the grand game.

I would like to reiterate this. Seriously. Why is this post here The only non-metafilter thing you linked to does not appear to be the actual comic, but a couple of sample panels and an order page. Is this just an excuse to combine LOLXIANS with LOLMORMONS? I mean, I like to LOL at fanatics as much as the next guy, but how is this a good metafilter post?

We of Massachusetts will long remember with abhorrence the time of Romney's Mormon Overlordship. May all of us who truly follow the Gospel of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and not these johnny-come-lately heretics prevail against this apostate Romney and his demonically inspired faith. May the country be granted divine perspicacity to see beyond his diabolical stratagems. Hooray for Jack Chick's clear vision of God's own truth.

The scary thing is that they do work. Someone in search of something to fill the void often comes across these things and others of Chick's malicious ilk (or worse), and it seems like an answer to them. Then they become a zombie.

Being from a big Mo family by heritage and history it's about time all the rest of you gentiles shaped up and started paying attention.
Here is old 1970's anti-Mo Toon from back in the day that actually does hit upon some controversial beliefs. In fact it was banned by LDS. The narration is hilarious, BTW.
