Widely Ranging Interests is a weekly podcast where two guys discuss their favorite obscure and arcane topics, from sea kayak marlin fishing to the history of the balaclava. Addicting.
Yes, it's an audio-only podcast. You can ignore the i-stuff, if you like, and just press the play button.

I find the left channel / right channel thing a little annoying.

Fascinating! Lovely stuff.
While on obscure/ arcane knowledge, there's a show in the UK hosted by the magnificent Stephen Fry called QI - it stands for Quite Interesting. It uses a game show format where participants score points by bringing up esoteric and, well, interesting points in response to Stephen's questions. Correctness is not an issue; points are awarded based solely on how interesting the proffered answer is.

Okay, I'm five minutes into episode 15 (which they claim in the intro is episode 14) and I'm really bored. Does this get better, or do they just speculate about clams without actually knowing anything?

Be careful with QI, it's like the addictive crack.
Delicious, tasty crack.

ricky gervais is so overrated. Maybe it's just that I cant get over how he says his obviously french name in such a disgustingly english manner. Jer-vays.. *shudder*

Oh, I agree, sunshinesky. It's just that the show is very much in the "people discussing random stuff" vein.

Gawd...that's as much douche-baggery is someone who would complain about pronouncing the 't' in 'often'. But then, I lack certain pedantic genes.
