Perl is the one more language widespread almost as the BASIC and having almost same bad glory. It has written Larri Wall. Look what moustaches he has. That's very hard to argue with.

It's weird, I shaved on Saturday and my coding has went down to nil. On the other hand, luck with the ladies (LWTL) has increased.

Having read the original linked by Skorgu, all I can say is that this is very true.

As far as facial hair and programming, I believe Neil Stephenson suggested programmers did it as a way of distancing themselves from the world.
On the other hand, I've seen a recent article that hints that facial hair increases during times of economic stress, with the theory that a mustache conceals a trembling lip and helps hide signs of fear. It would explain facial hair among cops, the military, and elite closers in baseball.
Doesn't really explain facial hair in programming though.

programmers did it
I think we first need to establish the programmers do it. This has selection bias all over it.
And that makes me wonder: Are there any languages created by women?

Not a language-writer, but he forgot him.
Probably the best beard of them all.

Also, the programmer dress code. I think Stallman is high in that photo.

This explains why I start projects but never finish them. My facial hair can never go beyond the "peach fuzz" phase.

I think there's one language the article's author might not have the full grasp of.

I'm looking into the D programming language lately, and... oh crap. Walter Bright looks like a wrinkled 12 year old. The only thing that is missing is a Seattle Mariner's baseball cap.
