There is no place for humor in the octagon.

That dude doesn't know what he's talking about. Anyone even remotely familiar with Ecuadoran Kenpō knows that the megagoogly backflop is the correct defense against the chuckleberry handshake.

Who the fuck are either of these people and why do I care enough to spend 6 minutes of my life watching this video?

kthxbye.

Good times. What made this was the production value. "He's not going to have the answer for the triple decker pecker wrecker."

he's not going to have an answer for a triple-decker pecker wrecker - i guarantee it - nobody does

I have been following this match up for a long time. Boucher HAS been out of the game for a while, so I don’t think we will see the level of striking we saw in 68 or 70, but his kicks are looking pretty impressive, and if he can all round and keep Mathis at distance and upright, he should break Mathis.

That being said, Mathis IS the undisputed submission champ, and has never lost from a KO that he hasn’t gotten up from.

Sadly, I think this match up will devolve into an endurance game and could very well go into the 3rd or 4th; really, with two powerhouses like Boucher and Mathis, no one wants to see that.

Can somebody convince me in the comments why this isn't a worthless link to some Ultimate fighting bullshit?

I think it's some kind of parody, Megafly, but I don't know enough about what is being parodied to know for sure.

pssst guys

it's (well-done) parody

Oh come on Megafly, it’ll just take 6 minutes of your time.

I hate UFC, but this video really got me interested in the story of these two fighters, and their contributions not just to the ‘sport,’ but to the whole world.

I mean, it has people dressing up as roman gladiators as interstitials! And a chorus of vague ululations in the background over brass and timpani! You can feel the intensity exploding from every facet of this 6 minute piece of pure testosterone and PUMP!

Trust me; this is not your average “worthless link to some Ultimate fighting bullshit.”

This is worth your 6 minutes.

If it's well-done parody shouldn't it be, well, funny? This seems to lack any humor. Roping? Roping is funny?

Whatever. These guys are no Ottawa Senators, that's for sure.

It takes a long time to become an obvious parody. I almost didn't stick with it. I'm glad i did.

If you didn't immediately notice how pale and flabby both of the fighters are, this is a sure indication that you need to get the fuck outside and get some exercise.

That said I've got 10 bucks on the fat guy. Speaking from experience fat provides a protective layer, and adds heft to your strike when you fall over on someone.

Locuacious is right. Boucher in round 2 by suffocation.

It's subtle. I personally enjoyed it.

Oddly subtle considering the target. Funny. Would pound it from behind again.

Suffocation? Ya noob, that technique's called a front sacrifice smother wrap. You probably wouldn't know a rear naked choked chicken from a triple decker pecker wrecker.

Professional wrestling is to UFC what The Office is to The Celebrity Apprentice. WRITERS ARE IMPORTANT.

I saw Boucher v. Mathis and wondered why there'd be an analysis of a court case on youtube.

man, it took me way too long to realize this was a joke. that was pretty great.

People who do not watch this video really don't know what they're missing.

People who do not have their testicles detached in a freak tractor pull accident also do not know what they're missing, but that really isn't a good reason to experience it.

My annoyance with this post started with having to look at the tags for any context whatsoever, and then wondering why the first minute of a video in a "comedy" post was so decidedly unfunny. People seem to be saying it becomes funnier as it goes on.

If that's the case, this post is a fine example of how the "mystery meat" approach can completely torpedo an FPP.
posted by tkolar at 12:53 PM on May 8, 2008

tkolar, you've no doubt spent more than 6 minutes complaining about the post. You should have just watched it, hated it, and shutted the fuck up.

If that's the case, this post is a fine example of how the "mystery meat" approach can completely torpedo an FPP. For you.

You know, the funny thing is if you watched the entire short, you would probably have spent less total time on this FPP than you have complaining about it after you watched less than minute of the video.

Just sayin'.

AGREED. THIS FPP HAS BEEN TORPEDO'D. NO ONE CLICKED AND THOSE WHO DID DID NOT FIND THE LINKED MEDIA FUNNY AS HELL.

THIS FPP IS A FAILIURE.

[that video was damn hilarious. this fpp is totally fine.]

Pecinpah makes a good case. Mathis round 1 by liver triangle.

The triple decker pecker wrecker is pure Gracie jiu jitsu flimflam. Everyone knows that Kimura perfected the single decker pecker wrecker back in the 1950s. Those extra two deckers are superfluous. Also: Rickson by armbar in the first two minutes.

I agree with loquacious. Fat guy in the third quarter using the rabbit punch method.

We had some people over to our house and one guy really wanted to watch this match with a guy named Jason "Mayhem" Miller, so we did. The fight somehow managed to be both gory and boring at the same time, but that Miller guy was hilarious (intentionally, I think) in the interviews.

I got 5 on Mathis half way through the second round. He seems really strong in flailing inaccurately, but I really see Boucher's incipient coronary disease being the real deciding factor.

Now, I expected Boucher to take it easily during the first round. A vicious, well-timed stumble, and Mathis crumples under the fierce force of the flabby fighter's flaccid fall.
