The key to keeping company-related message boards civil may be eliminating anonymity from them. If actual employees are going to say ugly things about their coworkers, it should be possible to identify who said it.

Specifically in regards to vault.com, I'm guessing one of the reasons it's recently become a haven for anonymous, free-for-all slandering is because there is no one left monitoring the message boards at all.
