Remember Lillian Ladele? She claimed that she couldn't wed gays as a registrar because it conflicted with her strongly held orthodox christian beliefs. Well it turns out that she's just another hypocrite who has cloaked herself in "strongly held beliefs" to advance her bigotry and intolerance because it turns out Ms Ladele has had a child out of wedlock.
This post was deleted for the following reason: put this in the stil open thread. and really axegrind filter is sort of tawdry even if your side is "right" -- jessamyn

I love the image of two hot guys making out after getting married as much as the next gay guy, but how does this change anything? So 1) she made a mistake 25 years ago to have a child out of wedlock and now she regrets it or 2) she changed her religious beliefs in the 25 hears between having a kid and deciding she has strongly held orthodox beliefs.
Either way, I don't see the point of attacking her on this, or for the civil trial to be re-opened...

25 hears is similar to having 25 ears, but in the above post it should be 25 years. gosh-darn it.

Oh, the cherry-picking. I like to call it 'salad bar Christianity': I'll have some of the Psalms and Genesis, but no Revelations or Romans, please.
Anyway, is it some sort of surprise that there is yet another uninformed hypocrite in the world?

Nope. It's the other side that demands loyalty oaths, insists on unattainable standards of perfect conduct, and which profits from airing personal failings in the public square. When liberals and progressives play this game as well, everyone loses.
Larry Craig or Ted Haggard are arguable cases. Exposing lawless hypocrisy in public figures can function to check immediate abuses of power and influence. Even there, whatever immediate gains are made are offset by the corrosion of our civic discourse. But here? With a person who's completely unknown and whose stupidity and bigotry could stem from any number of sources, the details of which we will never know? Whose influence on policy was only ever marginal under the best of circumstances?
There's no justification for this kind of shit. Not on MetaFilter. Not anywhere. Shame on you.
