Listen, can you hear them talk? They might be soft spoken, and not easy to get along with, but they can still command (previously) our respect. Read how they are looked after around the world, and the stories which affect their daily lives. Also, here (pdf) is a comprehensive study of their living conditions in different kinds of societies across the globe.

Old people as a whole are more racist, more homophobic, more sexist, less concerned about the environment, more likely to support torture, more likely to think killing ay-rabs is a great thing, more likely to... well you get the point.
Essentially if you pick virtually any bigotry old people are more likely to accept it than young people.
I like young people.

Yeah, well... just keep in mind that when you get old (which is gonna happen before you know it)... people are gonna say the same thing about YOU.
More often than not, people who were jerks as young people are also jerks as old people. Age has little to do with it. A lot of senior citizens are amazing human beings, even though they're trying to keep their heads up while their (previously strong) bodies fail before their eyes, their friends all die one by one, and they try to choose between paying for their medicine or buying food (leastwise in America).
So don't be an ass and get the Hell off of their lawn.
