Scattered, Smothered, Covered and Hitched, in a Waffle House Parking Lot

Pamela and Bubba get married down at the Waffle House. Be sure to click on the photo essay (slideshow) link on the bottom. It does require suffering through a commercial but it's worth it.

Nick Walpington or Nan Goldin come to mind.

The photographer was Benjamin Hager.

This post was deleted for the following reason: LOLhicks is really not a very good post for metafilter and the crappy comments sort of drive that point home. -- jessamyn

This is noteworthy because they're fat hicks, right?

Yeah, I saw this the other day on some other site, with some silly headline like "OMFG YOU GOTTA SEE THIS!!!!1!". Turns out, what, I'm supposed to look down my nose at these people? Because, what, they're too stupid to understand that they shouldn't be happy, and in fact they should be embarrassed? Is that what I'm supposed to do?

Yeah, um, thanks, but I'll pass.

I think it's sweet. But if I was the groom, when asked about the 'do you take this woman...' part, I woulda responded with, "I'll take her scattered, smothered, and covered".

Well so what, they work there. Probably not the first time someone's been married at a regional chain restaurant where one or both of the participants worked. And, I read the news story, it isn't like they're unaware they are "rednecks."

Oh what delicious food at the reception they must have had. I love Waffle House, alas, there are none where I live.

That was sweet, y'all.

That's awesome. Particularly the very last one with the rings in a waffle. "Waffle House is as much a part of our life as our kids are."

Interrobang: it's noteworthy because it's the antithesis of a 100K$ super-extravagant wedding.

I wasn't sure if I was supposed to laugh at these people until I saw that they have two kids born out of wedlock. Total trash, amirite?!?

At least we can be certain that there was no "Canon in D" at this wedding, and thank God for that.

a shame that all their gay and black friends couldn't be there.

XMLicious: "That's awesome. Particularly the very last one with the rings in a waffle. "

Negative. The awesomest part was the Coke cans tied to their bumper with one Keystone can.
And that it happened at Waffle House.

I am so tired of people making fun of Pamela and Bubba and people similar to them.

I am tired of people thinking that the only people that shop at Walmart, or eat or work at the Waffle House, are fat, white and dumb. What if Pam and Bubba were black, or Bengali, or any other race or ethnicity other than white and from the South? Would this still be linked all over the internet?

I read this story not too long ago. Pamela and Bubba got married at the Waffle House because one of them was working there and they hardly had any free time, and I'm guessing little expendable income, to cut out for a nice WASPY wedding.

Toekneesan, I'm guessing your intention is to link to untraditional wedding pictures and not to poke fun. I'm not directing my frustration at you, or other Metafilter users, it's just a general peeve. Maybe I have a soft spot for these "hicks" because I'm one of them.

I agree with 'sweet'.

Good luck, young lovers. I hope you have your 70th anniversary party at the same place.

And yes. I shed a tear or two.

I'm sorely tempted to speak in a fashion that would get my comment deleted, but I'll limit myself to suggesting that you are displaying a lamentable degree of bigotry and should rethink your attitudes.

Also, you tell 'em, LoriFLA.

I think we need a lulz forecast applet as part of the sidebar. "Today we might laugh at [something something], with [something else]-sensitive persons discouraged to click on thread number nnnnn. Shitstorm fronts related to [whatever else to troll about] on MetaTalk are 75% likely. Be kind to your mods, fellas."

I thought:

1. Oh that's sweet.

2. Reminds me of a couple in the press here who got married in Sainsburys (a chain supermarket)

3. God, that waffle I had when I was in Ghent was awesome.

I wasn't aware that you could spot gay people just by looking at them. Or that ones circle of friends should have a minority quota.

In my 20s I knew a couple who married at a Domino's Pizza. 'Cuz that's where they met. So I guess this doesn't really seem all that unusual to me. Just kind of, as others said, LOL hicks.

If I'm going to laugh at trashy weddings I'd rather laugh at ones that truly deserve to be mocked. THIS for example.

Like languagehat, I'm tempted to give back what your comment deserves, but I'm trying to turn over a new leaf. It's a shame you felt you had to make that comment. It's a hurtful and bigoted thing to say, and more unfortunately, you probably consider yourself better for it.

languagehat (and on preview Cyrano), I think that kitchenrat was probably referring, in a tongue-in-cheek manner, to the widespread allegations of discriminatory practices by Waffle House.

My friend Bubba got hitched at a local dive bar some years back; alas, both the bar and the marriage are history now. But it was one of the best weddings I ever attended and I agree with all those who enjoy seeing something other than the overpriced extravaganza of conspicuous consumption that so many weddings have become.

The last time I ate at a Waffle House (a couple of months ago) I ran into a surgeon I know, so they obviously let anyone in there.
