Voting day today

There hasn't been much coverage about this in the major media, so you probably aren't aware that there is a presidential election today. After two terms, the current president cannot seek reelection. The next president could be a military man or an attorney. There could also be changes in the Senate. All of this means a lot for the country's relations with other countries, its independence from foreign energy sources, and for the future, in general, of this great country.

anyone got the most recent polls? If Obama's leading by less than 5% the election could still be stolen.

There's an election soon? Do tell.

We good citizens of Palau are disheartened by the obsessive self-focus of some other countries.

Go Toribiong!

I see what you did there! Good luck Palau.

I considered making a post about landslides in places like Florida, Ohio, Indiana, Nevada, Colorado, etc., but then decided that landslides, while an underappreciated geological phenomenon, probably wouldn't go over big on Mefi.

Of course, I could be proven wrong sometime later today.

so you probably aren't aware

this is somewhat akin to a simpsons-joke circa season thirteen that thinks it's as in the same league as a simpsons-joke from season three.

Christ, not another Chin/Toribiong thread.

Joey, this post isn't about the US election. It's about the election in Palau. It's a gotcha post. It got me too.

I can't believe Chin's running mate claimed foreign policy credentials based on being able to see Helen Reef from the poop-deck of his catamaran.

"Polycarp Basilius" is the best name I've ever heard, and Tommy Remengesau is rather photogenic

And that's all I know of the politics of Palau

Go whoever won't fuck up Palau on purpose!

I once smoked some weed from Palau before playing a show in an art gallery on Guam. Later that evening, I got a hug from a Chuukese cop after watching fireworks underwater.

True story.

Well played sir/madam, well played. :-)

I clicked the CIA link first. Fell for it. :-|

Voted. Second in my district. Already a large line.

It felt damn good. Not that I have to really convince MeFites, but if you're able to... go vote! Now.

Awesome post. Have you been holding this in reserve for weeks, or did it just come to you recently?

Have you been holding this in reserve for weeks, or did it just come to you recently?

I'm worried now that I'll make the same post every four years.

By the way, GO AND VOTE!

The future of Palau depends on it.

Wow, a gotcha post where we think the FPP is about the Presidential Election but it's really about some other election. Never seen that before.

Voted. Second in my district. Already a large line.

Didn't you lose district status back in 94? And how many people can there possibly be in that line?

U.S. election is over anyway. Obama beat McCain by a count of 15 to 6 in Dixville Notch.

I think I heard something about that. Is it today?

And we're going to Ngaraard and Ngchesar and Ngiwal and Angaur. We're going to Koror and Peleliu and Chelbacheb and Hatohobei and Sonsorol. And then we're going to Melekeok! To take back the Presidential Capitol! CHOOOOOCHOOOOOIIIIII!

I think most of us at MetaFilter were happy to hear that Toribiong won!

TORIBIONG! TORIBIONG! TORIBIONG!
posted by twoleftfeet at 10:17 PM on November 6, 2008

But in the excitement over Toribiong, let's not lose sight of the other results. I think Sweeney Ongidobel's win in Ngeremlengui State may turn out to be a portent for the future.
