After he called 911 saying that he was suicidal, UNC student Courtland Benjamin Smith was shot by police.

This post was deleted for the following reason: It's an awful situation from any perspective, but a short article with few details about a shooting by police has very little to digest and a whole lot to have some already-well-hashed-out arguments about. Maybe a better post about this when and if there are more postworthy details at some point? -- cortex

Okay, you all know the drill...everyone who hates the police on this side, everyone who likes them on the other.

"Police brutality," as this post is tagged, is a bit short of what I imagine for a fatal shooting. Either way, I think this is a dangerously thin post, especially with the extremely vague police comment provided in the story.
Archdale police said in a statement that a man in his early 20s called 911 from a car on I-85, between Trinity and Archdale, shortly before 5 a.m. Sunday to say he was suicidal. When officers stopped his car near the Hopewell Church Road exit, police said, the man became confrontational, and an altercation ensued in which an officer shot the man.
Perhaps we should wait until more information is available (or dug up) before posting this?

True, smackfu; but you'd think this would be a situation where those Tasers cops seem so fond of would be used instead of a gun.
