He is a hypnotic presence on camera. Maybe because we know we are looking at and listening to one of the only great painters alive. (Hockney is the other.) By the way, this being Halloween and all, let me say that few things in art are scarier than the surface texture of a late painting by Freud, seen close up. He "shocks" without all the usual tropes.
