Corruption Perceptions Index 2001 highlights worldwide corruption
"There is no end in sight to the misuse of power by those in public office - and corruption levels are perceived to be as high as ever in both the developed and developing worlds.
It does not reflect secret payments to finance political campaigns, the complicity of banks in money laundering or bribery by multinational companies. Corruption in the most prosperous countries in the world has many manifestations."

What I find disturbing is not levels of corruption, but peoples' seeming willingness to tolerate it. Corporate corruption is the real problem in the so called 'civilized' countries, but it is largely ignored.

Most corrupt countrys the population knows and expects its officials to be corrupt. They have no faith or trust in public institutions and rely soley on grassroots, community and family. In developed countries we find corruption appaling since it we rely on public institutions for help.. in less developed countries most people could care less.. always been that way always will be. Its not a "crisis" rather I think we are becoming ever more socialized and thus corruption is just us looking back in the mirror and projecting our problem on others.
