A compelling hypothesis: the internet is made of cats.

This alternative history of the internet is brought to you by old but good rathergood. They are very fond of cats.

Cat-Scan.com is one of the strangest sites I've seen in some time. I have no idea how these people got their cats wedged into their scanners, or why.

The Internet is made of code words and obsessively repeated references which establish insider status so that we can feel that we are accepted members in a tribe while alone in front of glowing rectangles.

I believe that they wire Werner Herzog's Internet that way specially.

Not to ruin the metadiscussion, but does the link resolve for anyone? I've been reloading the page intermittently for about an hour and I only ever get database errors.
posted by Kattullus at 3:15 PM on January 27, 2010

Its not resolving for me either, but, to be fair, I don't know where the hell my cats are half of the time either and that doesn't mean that they're not there. Watching.

Yeah, you pay extra to use The HerzogNet, but IMHO it is worth it.

Rather Good remains one my most favorite websites EVER. Make sure you check out Rocket Dog when the site is back to functioning (in the archives) - it's a catchy little tune (that I sing when I'm walking my dogs.)

They shouldn't have used the document feeder.

Did they make their webserver out cats to test the hypothesis?

I've seen keyboard cat but I don't think they can type that fast for long!

What to do with a dead internet cat....

Down again. I feel guilty for clicking on the link.
posted by warbaby at 9:51 PM on January 27, 2010

You know, I wasn't feeling it until they got to Maru, and then it all clicked into place. Rather better than what I've grown used to from Rathergood.

Oh, I dunno, Mizu, maybe it's just my sense of humor, but I've always liked Rathergood -- there are several of their older songs on perma-play in the back of my head somewhere (the one about the muskox being dirty...aiyi). This will now join them, taking up valuable spare brain space that I could've used to, hmm, cure cancer or something.
