I thought this post was going to be about Micros~1.
...it was a medicine show, of a type rapidly withdrawing into antiquity.
Informercials are bringing them back, though.
And whoa, Hadacol was exposed by Martin Gardner in 1952? That gives a really good gut feel for just how long Gardner's been doing his thing. Wow.

I distinctly remember seeing a Hadacol billboard on Grand Avenue in Coconut Grove in 1973!

Godamn this is a good post. Thanks for introducing me to this blog. l love finding new outlets for 'serious' criticism online, espeically one with lines like:
Man, this is a lot of testimony! How about another song?
The analysis reminds us that product placement (even the winking, faux-critical kind) is nothing new, and neither is free advertising of naive artists singing about the dumb crap they like.

We have a town that was called Hadacol Corner. The Post Office decided that the town could not be named after a trademark, so it is now Midkiff. It was the site of the major oil boom in 1950s Texas, and a popular singer at the time, Slim Willet, made a song called "Hadacol Corner" that captured the essence of dry, dusty West Texas.
Hadacol Corner, caliche road.
Once it rained and once it snowed.
But most of the time, the wind just blowed.
Hadacol Corner, caliche road.
A car will last you ninety days
If you don't drive over thirty.
I've been gone so long
They're calling me the Spraberry stray.
