Since discovering this post (maybe one of my favorite all-time Metafilter posts), I've been reading The Last Full Measure, which I learned about in this comment.
Now these blogs present new, deep, interesting Civil War history. I'm glad I was introduced to the crazy story of Pauline Cushman-Fryer - a Union Spy.
What I'm getting at is that Metafilter has given me more understanding of the Civil War than 12 years of public school education, 4 years of undergraduate study, and a Masters degree.
So, um, yeah. Thanks!
