When I was a kid, Erol Otus was my favorite artist. I copied and emulated everything of his I could get my hands on.

Wow. Three out of four ain't bad. I still own that very D&D book, had several of those Atari carts, and had a lasertronic printer in my garage for a year (parted it out with a saws-all).
