The Malaysia Design Archive: Understanding Malaysian history through Graphic Design. "This project is an attempt to trace, map and document the development of graphic design in Malaysia. It is also a project to highlight the importance of archiving as a way to protect and preserve our own visual history. What is our design history? Do we have one?" Examine Malaysian movie posters; discover the visual detritus of an old jail; peruse political artifacts; explore the country's visual history from Colonialism, through Occupation, Emergency, and finally, Independence. Syonan Times (Shimbun), an English newspaper published during the Japanese Occupation; the Syonan Times or Shimbun (abbreviated to SS) commenced publication on 20 February 2602 (1942) and lasted till 4 September 2605 (1945).

Can someone enlighten me on the Malay chronology and how they were already in the year 2605 in 1945?

Given the 660 year offset, and the circumstances, I think those years are from the Japanese calendar, not Malay.

I have bookmarked this for a more leisurely investigation & reflection. I occasionally teach consideration of design in writing for digital environments--well, I occasionally teach, I always teach consideration of design in writing.

Most of the information & design material I have is from Western resources--much of it from European web design resources, but Jacob Nielsen, too. Another perspective can only serve to widen students appreciation.
