I wish I could shit on the carpet of everyone who plays a vuvuzela, including the people who do it ironically to make another joke about vuvuzelas.

I am actually laughing out loud at that dog. Holy shit indeed. You win, dog.

What's a vuvuzela? Is this something you would need to use the Internet to understand?

They sell these things at the hockey games here, but they're used more for air-horn type of sounds rather than blowing on them Kenny G style for minutes at a time.

I didn't know they had a real name, they were always just $5 plastic horns.

I am kinda wishing that they take off and start showing up at NFL and other major sporting games here Stateside.

So now that soccer's getting kinda popular in the states, does this mean football (the game with the oblong spheroid held in one's hands) is going to have to change its name in deference to the sport involving a ball and feet?

Or: will the world finally accept that "soccer" is a good name too, and start using that instead?

They'd certainly jazz up a drowsy afternoon of televised golf.

Or: Neither? Americans will still use "soccer" and "football" while the rest of the world uses "football" and "American football". Why would anything change?

If people start palying vuvuzelas at football games here I will walk past them and play my silent but deadly butt trumpet!

Nerds.

Also, what dog?

Call it handegg.
(Not to be confused with Handegg, where they play football.)

Something loved by nerds + meme du jour = new link to be posted on metafilter, reddit and digg.

Watch it with YouTube's vuvuzela 'feature' enabled. Double the annoying, half the price!

After hearing one in person, I've internalized a vuvuzela as being "a power kazoo". That's pretty much all it sounds like to me.

Or: will the world finally accept that "soccer" is a good name too, and start using that instead?

So the "world" should change it's lexicon because some yank fucked up naming a sport played mainly in the US?

kmz has it, the rest of the world will say "American football" vs football and Americans will continue to say soccer.

Ugh. It's gotten to the point that I prefer vuvuzelas over the vuvuzela meme.

I caught the Spielberg/Cruise 'War Of The Worlds' for the first time Friday night on TV. The first time one of the baddies started hooting, I just about sprained something laughing. Space Vuvuzela!

So am I the only one who has the song "Welcome to the Jungle" by Guns n Roses stuck in his head every time I hear these things?

That constant drone of the A/A# note reminds me of the guitar intro that Slash does at the beginning of the song.

I love football, I don't mind these vuvuzelas, but lord help me if I start to like Guns and Roses after this tournament!

As a person who dislikes sports and likes trolling vicariously, I have to say the vuvuzela is the greatest invention ever. One (relatively small) country ruins an international, widely anticipated game everybody.

To all the Europeans who think that "soccer" is an awful and arbitrary name, allow me to introduce you to our Imperial units.

The word "soccer" was invented by the English, as sort of a humorous shortening of "association football." So say various sites, including Word Origins.

I didn't know they had a real name, they were always just $5 plastic horns.

That's the problem. They are just plastic horns. But the "exotic" name "vuvuzela" validates their abuse.

Instead of "ugh those damn plastic horns" it's "Oh that's so wonderful, because as you know the vuvuzela is part of the culture there."

I've just spent way more time than I'd like to admit watching dogs freak out on Youtube. Tomorrow's agenda: Find a vuvuzela and a dog.
